Which hawker centres should I hit?

Maxwell (Tian Tian chicken rice), Lau Pa Sat (satay street at night), Old Airport Road for depth, Chinatown Complex for the Michelin stall. Two hawker meals a day is the correct pace.

Is Singapore doable on a budget?

Surprisingly yes: hawker meals run S$4-8, the MRT is cheap and spotless, and the best attractions (Supertree show, Marina Bay light show, neighborhoods, MacRitchie trails) are free.

Marina Bay Sands SkyPark or a rooftop bar?

A rooftop bar (CÉ LA VI or nearby Lantern) costs about the same as the observation deck but includes a drink, and you see the iconic building instead of standing on it.

How many days does Singapore need?

Two to three: Gardens and Marina Bay, ethnic quarters and hawker crawls, then Sentosa or the night safari. It's also the world's easiest layover city, even 12 hours rewards.
