The Garden of Morning Calm is Korea's most beautiful winter night out. From late autumn into early spring the 330,000 square meter garden in Gapyeong is wired with millions of lights, and its hillsides, tunnels, and trees become one of the country's largest lighting festivals. In the warmer months the same paths are a living garden of 5,000 plant species across 22 themed areas.

🏡 A Little History

Opened in 1996, the garden was designed and built by Professor Han Sang-kyung of Sahmyook University together with his wife, one of Korea's first private botanical gardens. The name comes from an old nickname for Korea, the Land of the Morning Calm.

The winter Lighting Festival runs on themes that carry across the hillside, from butterflies and glowing hearts to a light train and deer set among the trees. Many visitors pair it with nearby Nami Island on the same trip out of Seoul.
